Project Scope
- 11kV protection grading study
- Design and construction of 11kV site network earthing
- Supply and installation of 11kV circuits
- Install main switchboard with ARC suppression system
- Install 7.6km of Energex feeder cable and 3.5km Energex fibre
- Connect, test and commission 6 kiosk transformers
- Connect, test and commission RMU’s and dry type transformers for 2 major indoor substations
- Perform 11kV switching operations
- Test and commission intake substation
- Conduct terminations in Coomera zone substation
Challenges
- After being engaged late, gaps were identified in the design
- Pensar completed a detailed design of protectors and earthing
- Sentre Group had contractual obligations with major retailers, so key delivery dates could not be missed
- The main switchboard included long-lead time items
- Cables had to be routed through 7km of existing conduits running across the M1 and past schools
- Works completed around high-pressure gas, live electrics and traffic
- A month of commissioning was required before going live
- Had to install 17 HV joints around live services
Achievements
- Commissioning was successfully completed the first time and on time
- Extensive hours were worked to ensure that a high-quality system was delivered with no defects, ensuring the customer was very satisfied
- Despite the challenging circumstances, no safety issues occurred
- Good communication with stakeholders resulted in no complaints from residents or schools
- Through proactively offering solutions, the scope changes were managed and the project was delivered within the required deadlines
