August 2019 - March 2020
Project Scope
- Removal and replacement of the roof and associated steelworks
- Design, supply and install of access platform, perimeter handrails, davit, internal ladder, staircase
- Removal of internal liner and geofabric and the polyurea type bandage
- Rehabilitation of concrete, wall to ring beam joint, floor joints and internal reservoir steel components
- Installation of a flexible bandage seal
- Replacement of all pipework within the inlet valve pit
- All electrical works required to demolish and recommission reservoir roof
- Modifications to existing control systems code in order to commission the new reservoir instrumentation
- Removal of the sealant to the floor and wall joints and replaced using a monolithic polyurea membrane to improve water tightness
Challenges
- The project was highly time sensitive with pressures from community members and local council
- The roof on reservoir R79 was deemed structurally unsound and required replacing but was not safe to access
Achievements
- A successful working relationship was established with the client which resulted in the award of additional reservoir works in addition to the original contract
- The demolition of the R79 roof was conducted via an EWP, which was lifted onto the reservoir to ensure no one was required to walk on the unsafe surface
- Recycling opportunities were identified with both environmental and commercial benefits
- Pensar designed an aluminium and stainless steel roof supporting structure that exceeded the design life required by the client
