Singleton STP Upgrade D&C
About the project
The Singleton STP design and construct upgrade involved electrical, instrumentation and control works to improve automation, energy efficiency and operational performance at an existing wastewater treatment facility. Originally constructed in 1984, the plant is a critical infrastructure asset supporting current and future community demand in the region.
Location
Singleton, NSW
Client & Duration
Singleton Council
Nov 2025 - Sep 2026
Project Scope
- Construction of a new switchroom with switchboards, VSDs and field wiring throughout the plant
- Supply and installation of aerator motors and electrical infrastructure
- Construction of new amenities, including a laboratory, offices, lunchroom and bathrooms
- Construction of a new generator room and standby generator
- Design and integration of PLC and SCADA systems, including UV processes
- Supply and installation of the UV pretreatment system, including feed pumps, filtration and backwash pump station
- Integration of new electrical and control systems with existing infrastructure.
Challenges
- Delivery within a live operational STP was managed through detailed staging, sequencing and isolation planning, ensuring continuous plant operation and maintaining critical treatment processes throughout
construction - Integration of new MCC-related systems, PLC and SCADA with existing infrastructure was addressed through detailed design coordination, interface definition and progressive commissioning to ensure a seamless system transition
- Staging, cutovers and commissioning were planned around constrained outage windows, with pre-commissioning, testing and contingency measures implemented to minimise risk and avoid disruption
to operations - Coordination across electrical, process and mechanical interfaces was managed through proactive planning, regular stakeholder engagement and on-site supervision to ensure alignment across all work
fronts.
Achievements
- Delivery of complex EIC upgrades within a live operational STP with no unplanned disruption to plant operations
- Successful integration of new MCC, PLC and SCADA systems with existing infrastructure, improving operational efficiency and system reliability
- Implementation of energy-efficient upgrades, reducing energy consumption, operating costs and emissions
- Strong working relationship with Singleton Council and stakeholders which supporting coordinated delivery and positive project outcomes.
