Sarus Tower Replacement
About the project
Pensar was commissioned to replace damaged navigation beacons in the Brisbane River and to complete alterations and refurbishments of redundant Sarus Towers stored at the MSQ Depot.

Project Scope
- Refurbishment of flexible coupling
- Steel patch repair
- Lengthening of tower shaft
- Installation of aluminium work platform and lamp stand
- Installation of topmark and stand
- Supply and installation of ladder, support clamps and safety chains
- Installation of beacon
- Removal of existing damaged beacon and transportation back to the MSQ Depot ready for refurbishment for a future project
Challenges
- The project was to be completed before Christmas 2019, resulting in a short program
- Works were affected by wet weather and high winds
- Tides and river flows had to be monitored to allow for installation
Achievements
- Positive working relationships established through collaboration with TMR and subcontractors
- All beacons were installed within 0.5m of original position
- No defects identified by the client through the beacon refurbishment process
- Successful preplanning that ensured the removal and installation process was completed in a single day
- Project delivered on program, despite weather delays and working around tidal conditions
