RCC Canoe Launching Facility

About the project

This project included the construction of a new canoe launching facility. This new piece of infrastructure will encourage and aid the usability of Moreton Bay for kayak and canoe enthusiasts.

Project Scope

  • Civil works and landscaping
  • Plumbing and drainage
  • Lighting and electrical works
  • Design and construction of abutment, piling and pontoon
  • Transportation of oversized and critical materials
  • Risk management and roadworks

Challenges

  • Works were completed on a high traffic public road
  • Time frames were tight due to work being carried out in a public space
  • Procurement of a 150t crane to undertake a major lift on a public road during peak traffic hours
  • Transportation of an oversized load from the Sunshine Coast, requiring monitoring from police and a traffic escort to ensure safe delivery of materials
  • There was to be no contamination to Moreton Bay whilst constructing the new launching facility

Achievements

  • Project was completed with no safety or environmental incidents
  • Stakeholder concerns were effectively managed, establishing a positive working relationship
  • Work was completed to a high standard ensuring client satisfaction and benefit to the local community
  • An effective Traffic Management Plan ensured little disruption to the community
