An existing water bore, supplying the water for the Point Lookout Water Treatment Plant, was damaged and required replacement.

Project Scope
- Mechanical, civil, structural and electrical design of the new water bore, including of interconnecting pipework to existing DN300 water main, concrete plinth, retaining wall, fencing and a new electrical isolator box
- Drilling and installation of new PVC casing and a 316SS screen for the new bore
- Mechanical works including above and below ground pipework
- All civil works including concrete slab, retaining wall and fencing
- Commissioning and testing of new bore
Challenges
- Liaison with local aboriginal community to ensure the wetland next to the construction site was not impacted by the works
- The water released, as part of the bore development and testing process, was to have no environmental impact
- Managing the floats and locating of large and heavy equipment in a tight work area without disturbing the vegetation
- No information from the existing bore was available, a pilot bore and a sieve analysis was completed to determine the optimal screen aperture size
Achievements
- Close collaboration with local aboriginal community ensuring all CH requirements were met
- Close coordination with client to ensure drinking water quality testing and requirements were met during the project delivery and commissioning phases
- Project completed with zero safety incidents and zero environmental breaches
