HOTA MSB Replacement
About the project
The switchboard at the Home of the Arts Centre (HOTA), on the Gold Coast, was approximately 30 years old and reaching the end of its service life. The Gold Coast City Council engaged Pensar for the complete replacement of the existing switchboard.

Project Scope
- Replacement of main switchboard with generator control
- Replacement of distribution board
- Installation of new consumers mains, cable pits and cable trays
- Relocation of existing submain cabling
- Construction of an updated main switch room enclosure
Challenges
- Construction of new cable pit structure within existing services
- Works were to be completed without disruption to existing services
- Works were to be completed with minimal disruption to the HOTA centre by maintaining electrical supply for the duration of the project
- Extensive planning was necessary in order to complete works within shutdown periods
- Civil-redesign and rework was necessary in order to ensure compatibility with existing services
Achievements
- Strong communication with all stakeholders allowed for the project to be completed without delays
- Proactive planning significantly reduced the time taken to complete critical work, limiting the time of a complete shutdown, with minimal power outages
- Adaption of design proposed by Pensar to suit existing services
- Due to extensive planning all work was completed within the designated time frame
- No environmental breaches or safety incidents
- Implementation of innovative design and layout methods, allowing for the effective use of available space
