Homestead and Boera Dam Upgrades
About the project
As part of the Toorale Water Infrastructure Project, Pensar was engaged to deliver Phase 2 which included the upgrade of the existing dam regulator systems on the Warrego River in the Toorale National Park. The project outcome will enable a more flexible management of flows through the Toorale National Park to support environments within and downstream of the park.

Project Scope
- Construction of a weir cut-off wall incorporating 80m3 of concrete
- Baffle style fishway passage
- 30m long, 3-span bridge construction
- Construction of a 3 gate dam regulator with 6m high walls and stainless steel gates
- Precast concrete fish passage
Challenges
- Significant planning was required when coordinating all site equipment, supplies and deliveries due to the project’s remote location one hour north west of Bourke
- The closest concrete batch plant was located over one hour from site
- The national park is regularly subjected to unpredictable and unseasonal weather including extreme heat and heavy rain, creating at times a high-risk environment with flooding
Achievements
- Pensar successfully installed the Homestead Dam Bridge using an In-Quik bridging system in 21 days from foundations to completion
- The project team formed a collaborative working relationship with the client offering full transparency into the construction works
- Strong local community and business engagement delivering social and financial benefits to the local community
- The NSW Aboriginal Participation Plan targets were exceeded in the delivery of this project
