Holts Hill Fluoride Dosing System Upgrade
About the project
This project upgraded the fluoride dosing system which provides fluoridation for the East and West Bank mains. The system has a combined capacity of 1000ML/day.
Location
Mt Crosby, Queensland
Client & Duration
Seqwater
November 2017 - September 2018
Project Scope
- Decommission and remove redundant equipment
- Supply and install new HDPE dosing and batching tanks and equipment
- Supply and install new service water pumps, dosing pumps, pipework and instrumentation
- Overhaul fluoride screw feeder and install of new gearbox for increased capacity
- Upgrade electrical and control systems
- Re-commission dosing system, performance testing and operator training
Challenges
- Although this was a construct-only project, significant re-design was required and undertaken. These design changes resulted in rework and delays
- The tight time-frame imposed due to the critical nature of the facility meant alternative design processes had to be implemented
- All decommissioned pipework and equipment had to be treated and handled as fluoride contaminated trackable waste
Achievements
- To ensure the dosing system performs as per design during peak periods, commissioning was planned and executed in detail
- Detailed planning and early procurement of long lead time items prevented delays
- Strict compliance with all environmental regulations and the application of controls, enabled all trackable waste to be disposed of without incident
- Close collaboration with all stakeholders enabled fast-tracking of the service water system re-design to maintain schedule
- Despite working in restricted spaces and at heights, there were no safety incidents and zero lost time injuries
- Implemented design changes to ensure the system met the client’s specific requirements and functioned as intended
