Pensar was engaged by Toowoomba Regional Council to replace ageing equipment at Cressbrook Dam, to extend the service life of the assets and improve reliability.

Project Scope
- Design, supply, install and commission of LV power system switchboards (including new cabling and instrumentation)
- Design, supply, install and commission of HV power system switchboards (including new transformer and HV cabling)
- Design, supply, install and commission of new PLC and SCADA control systems
- Full functionality testing and optimisation of new control system and HV protection scheme logic
Challenges
- Design and installation of the conduit system under the existing bridge section to allow for the installation of the new HV cables
- Materials and equipment transport logistics to a remote site
- Organisation and negotiation of various long lead time procurement items from overseas throughout a global pandemic
- Maintaining an operable pump station for reliable water supply whilst undertaking upgrades
Achievements
- Pensar delivered the complete design and construct project in-house
- Several major items were redesigned to improve constructability and safety, specifically when installing large HV cables over long cable runs in confined spaces
- Successful coordination of various associated parties to meet strict deadlines within tight commissioning windows
- Minimal downtime to Toowoomba Regional Council's water operations
- Reduced the possibility of the structure being damaged in a flood situation
- Maintained positive client and contractor relationship throughout the whole project
