Cairns Reservoirs Remediation Package 2
About the project
To extend the service life of the assets and ensure water security for the local population, Pensar is engaged for remediation works at nine of Council reservoirs, located at eight sites. These are Mayer St, Panguna, Bayview Large, Barron View, Dempsey St A and B Runnymede, Brinsmead, and Crest Close.
The works at each site vary, but typically include steel roof replacements, concrete repairs and coatings, access improvements and access road repairs. The package is scheduled to be delivered over the 2023/24, 2024/25 and 2025/26 financial years.
Location
Cairns, Queensland
Client & Duration
Cairns Regional Council
Dec 2023 - ongoing
Project Scope
- 9 x Concrete reservoirs that require concrete rehabilitation, strengthening and internal protective coatings
- 2 x Reservoirs will have roof replacements, whilst all reservoirs will receive access upgrades
- Minor civil works to road access and temporary water supply
- Reservoirs located over 8 locations.
Challenges
- The team highlighted a discrepancy between client supplied IFC drawings and as surveyed 3D scan data which required some design changes and verification to ensure the new roof would fit the existing tank structure and avoid clashes with existing fixtures
- Minimal impact on water network supply and water quality
- Pensar is required to carry out all WUC in a manner that minimises the impact of construction on residents, the community and the environment in general.
Achievements
- Engaged Holovision to carry out 3D scanning of reservoirs
- Sustainable initiative: dispose of old steel roofing to a recycling facility
- Recently, the team completed the epoxy render on two of the large reservoirs and successfully rendered nearly 3,000m² across both tanks - 1,750m² at Brinsmead and 1,100m² at Bayview.
