About the project

Pensar was engaged for a 47 lot subdivision in Ormeau, to cater for the growing community. With Pensar’s multidisciplinary offering the team had the capability to deliver a full project solution including pump station and sewer rising main construction, electrical reticulation and road widening.

Challenges

  • The rear of the project backed onto an environmental protection zone. The project team were to work within limits agreed upon with GCCC’s Environmental Inspectors
  • The site was located adjacent to a residential community, resulting in a restricted site area
  • Due to restricted site area, works were to be carefully coordinated for contractors working in close proximity
  • A fine grained topsoil was used on the project, which easily changed to dust. Dust retention was a high priority, as not to effect the surrounding community
  • Design changes were required throughout the project, the team were to carefully manage works to ensure the project was completed on time

Achievements

  • No environmental incidents occurred, due to closely working with the GCCC’s Environmental Inspectors
  • Effective dust suppression with the use of water trucks and stopping all works if there were high winds
  • Works in close proximity were well managed to ensure no delays were experienced
  • The bio basin forebay was redesigned in collaboration with GCCC, improving functionality and future proofing the design to minimise maintenance costs and general issues
  • Zero reportable safety incidents occurred during the project
