About the project

Pensar was engaged for a 47 lot subdivision in Ormeau, to cater for the growing community. With Pensar’s multidisciplinary offering the team had the capability to deliver a full project solution including pump station and sewer rising main construction, electrical reticulation and road widening.

Location

Ormeau, Qld

Client & Duration

Azure
October 2018 - March 2019

Project Scope

  • 1500m² of retaining wall construction
  • Stormwater reticulation supply and installation
  • Watermain reticulation supply and installation
  • Bio retention basin construction
  • Road widening including footpaths, kerb, asphalt and line marking
  • Electrical reticulation supply and installation
  • Pump station and rising main construction including external live connection

Challenges

  • The rear of the project backed onto an environmental protection zone. The project team were to work within limits agreed upon with GCCC's Environmental Inspectors
  • The site was located adjacent to a residential community, resulting in a restricted site area
  • Due to restricted site area, works were to be carefully coordinated for contractors working in close proximity
  • The fine-grained topsoil used, coupled with high winds, created conditions conducive to dust
  • Retaining walls had to be constructed on privately-owned, semi-rural properties
  • Design changes were required to roads, water lines and retaining walls throughout the project

Achievements

  • Water trucks were used for effective dust suppression and halted works during high winds to minimise impact on residents
  • Redesigned the bio basin forebay in collaboration with GCCC to improve functionality, and minimise future maintenance costs
  • Stormwater lines were redesigned to ensure protected trees were not impacted
  • Worked closely with arborist and GCCC’s Environmental Inspectors to ensure no environmental incidents
  • Communicated effectively with all residential stakeholders to ensure minimal impact
  • Zero reportable safety incidents occurred during the project
  • The project was completed on time despite considerable redesign activities
